Well, I can consider myself an "old timer" when it comes to photography...I started with the old black & white & progressed to the color negatives - still to this day, I think regular 35mm beats the pants out of any regular digital SLR - that's unless you have enough money to burn and get an advanced Leica or Hasselblad - some of those can go for as much as a the price of a new car (20K and up!) I and those in my generation that grew up with the Bond movies became acostumed to the Minox brand - as the spy cams! I always wanted one, but the price was prohibitive back then - now for under $30.00 to get this novelty was just too much for me to hold back.
Initial impressions are: as light as it said it would be, as compact as it said it would be - so far 2 pluses....I was a bit disappointed to find out that it was manufactured in Japan - if I had paid the original price (close to $300) to find out that it was made in Japan - i would have been a bit ticked off. Now, nothing bad with stuff being made in Japan, is just that this camera's origin is from Germany and one would expect for this model to also be made in Germany.
The unit included a flash and film - very thoughtful - so I'll have to wait to get the film developed - only one place - and then I can report back.
Oh, by the way, the previous rater has to get a clue with film photography - not everything digital is better... and having 60+ negative reviews is not very good either!

Really small but powerful. For convenient photography in the smallest format MINOX presents the MX. Concentration on essentials is the philosophy applied here. The photographer can concentrate on the subject and let his or her creative imagination run free. Measuring just 8.4 x 2.1 x 3.4 cm this little marvel lies perfectly in your hand and is ready to shoot after a quick glance through the bright-line viewfinder. Focusing is carried out using a slide lever on the top of the camera, enabling convenient focusing from one meter to infinity.The film change is particularly convenient as the film cartridge is easily inserted in the film compartment on the back and the counter automatically resets to zero. The MINOX 8x11 Pro films as well as the MINOX Lab provide even sharper picture results, glowing with color. As a result of this further development it is now practically impossible to see any difference in quality when compared with conventional 35 mm films. For capturing subjects in the dark the MX flash is included, which has been optimally designed to match the camera body. It controls the required amount of light automatically and is hardly bigger than the camera itself. Weighing just 55 grams the MINOX MX is a flyweight in camera design. By using durable plastics reinforced with glass-fiber the weight has been kept to an absolute minimum. It weighs little more than a fountain pen and, whether put in a shirt or trouser pocket, is a constant companion for every occasion.
